3 out of 5 stars Sleepless in Southampton   June 19, 2010

I really like using Amazon to purchase goods...but! When it comes to electrical items such as this, I think it's safer to buy from a store such as Argos who are happy to take back goods purely because you aren't totally satisfied and not just because it's faulty.

So saying, the humidifier DID help me with my breathing/dry mouth syndrome at night (yes, I'm painting a pretty picture and this probably has something to do with me still being single!) The hissing noise it makes could easily be mistaken for rain (ish, and with a healthy imagination)and I didn't have a problem with condensation even though my bedroom isn't huge. The daily emptying out the unit and then re-filling is a bit of a bother too especially if there's the usual mad dash for work in the morning and then the usual "drop and flop" in the evening that leaves you forgetting you have to put the unit back together and fill it up before you can climb into bed!

The drawback is the "blooping" noise that occurs when it's in operation which is similar to that of a water cooler in an office. It probably happens when water is taken from the tank into the chamber that produces the vapour. Again, it is not too bad, but if like me you sometimes have problems with getting to sleep, once heard you then find yourself laying awake waiting for the next "bloop".

It has therefore been relegated to the spare room where it now resides under the guest bed as it's not "faulty"!

Great for children who are blessed with the ability to sleep through noisy neighbours or nuclear war, but not so good for insomniac adults with ears like a bat!

works well & produces nice warm humidified air. has low & high controls but nothing in between. Overall good product.

5 out of 5 stars very good& reliable   March 26, 2010

Very good humidifier for the price. Does what it says; works not too loud, the switchlight is not very bright, after 3 hrs of working on low level I could feel the difference in our bedroom. Really like it.

3 out of 5 stars Noisy but nice   March 19, 2010

I purchased this for my wife when she was ill and had a terrible dry cough, thinking it would help... it did help to add moisture to the air, and functions in that capacity quite well. However, it is much noisier than advertised. It is good to use in the living room, or family room, but using it in the bedroom is quite loud and kept us awake. We would usually run it for a few hours and then turn it off before going to bed, really defeating the purpose. If you're hard of hearing, or a heavy sleeper, it would be ideal. If not, I would not recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Vicks V-610E Warm Mist Humidifier   March 16, 2010

My granddaughter, aged 7, has had recurrent tonsillitis over the winter and her doctor recommended using a humidifier. She has been unbelievably better since using this one regularly overnight. The price was excellent, too.
