Great shaver, what a mess though February 8, 2010 Paul Lambard (UK) I went with this shaver after glowing reviews on Amazon. I've always used Philips as they really know their stuff with Electric shavers.
All shavers feel like the best shave you've ever had when you first buy them, brand new blades, a solid battery and fresh motor really make a difference. Would I say this is the best shave I've had from a Philips Shaver? I'm not sure, it's a damn good shave, I certainly can't fault it.
The moisturiser injection is actually nice, more than a gimmick that I thought it was when I first saw shavers doing this in adverts, really helps the skin and the shave.
Why 3 stars then? When I looked at the head in pictures I really didn't consider the consequences of the new design. Those old devices that captured all the hair may not be as stylish but where do you think all that hair goes now? That's right, everywhere! My sink is a complete mess after I've shaved because I'm fairly hairy. I need to clean my sink after every use, if you have a significant other be prepared to get it in the ear a lot about stray hair. Maybe my fault that I should have realised when I saw the shaver in pictures but I wouldn't be fair to give this shaver more than 3 stars because of my experience with it.
A close shave February 7, 2010 Peaches (UK) I bought this product for my hubby in october 2008 and it has made a big difference. Firstly he finds it easy and comfortable to use and now looks forward to shaving and because of the choice shaving dry or wet he is no longer restricted to the bathroom. He has had no skin irratations when dry shaving as the balm gives an adequate amount of lubrication which stops any friction. As his wife I have found that the feeling of sand paper is no longer there after he shaves and when stubble does appear the hairs feel alot softer. All in all thumbs up :o)
Thoroughly Disappointing January 6, 2010 Paul (Birmingham) After reading all of the 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon I really did get my hopes up that this electric razor would be somehow different to the ones that I have had in the past.
"I CAN GUARANTEE THAT THIS RAZOR IS AS CLOSE AS A WET SHAVE" one reviewer remarked...How wrong he was... After using the product it makes me think that maybe all of these reviews were left by people who work for Phillips.
Admittedly, the special gel feature of this product does work. My skin was not left feeling sensitive and irritated as with other electric razors. HOWEVER, I'm still left with noticeable stubble after using it; it just doesn't manage to cut all of the hairs in most areas. It's useless at getting hairs on my chin and underneath my jaw line. After using it, it still looks (and feels) like I haven't shaved for 2 or 3 days, it just isn't good enough.
The gel inside also does not last particularly long, I can see it becoming extremely expensive as time goes by. I'm just glad I didn't pay the full £150 RRP, I managed to get it brand new from one of the Amazon Sellers for £69. But I still feel ripped off.
I'm going to go back to my Gillette Turbo (the one which has five blades), even though the blades are very expensive and having to use shaving foam all of the time is somewhat bothersome, it really is the best shave that you can get.
It works!!! January 2, 2010 Mr. S. A. Thornton-James (UK) I recently purchased this shaver as I have never been overly impressed with my latst Braun: the earlier ones I had were good but for some reason not the current one - don't know why. However this Philips really works. My initial impressions were that it seemed a little lightweight and flimsy - at least compared to the Braun but in practice it does what it says on the tin. I've never owned a shaver that gives such a close shave - better than my Gillette Fusion wet shaver which I never thought possible. If it lasts the course then I'm a happy buyer.
Electric Shaver December 29, 2009 Mac (Scotland) I like this shaver as it gives a really smooth shave with little effort using a lighter touch than is required by many other shavers. . It doesn't hold its charge for long, and after three days needs recharging. I find it more convenient to recharge after every shave...it takes less than an hour... and that way it is always ready. It is also extremely quiet in operation, unlike other electric shavers I have owned. With the moisturising fluid dispensed automatically through the rotary blades as you shave, it is easier than and preferable to normal wet shaving. However, it gets through the moisturising fluid at a rate of knots, so be sure to keep a spare can on hand. My face feels good afterwards...no burning or irritation... just a pleasant sensation....and a good, cool clean shave.
I do find that it takes me a little longer than usual to shave, which is fine if like me you have the time. Furthermore the rotary blades don't trim closely enough to the sideburns. You have to switch to the other gadget provided for this.......easy enough to clip on and off...... but to be honest it is almost easier and quicker to use an old fashioned safety blade for the purpose.
All in all, it is a good buy and getting it through Amazon is a plus....fast delivery, no hassle and no worries as a result of the secure payment on line .
I also bought at the same time.....a complete indulgence......a Braun 7 Series which by comparison is much noisier in use. Braun recommend "dry" shaving..a completely opposite approach. The Braun is actually quicker to use and is more effective in dealing with some stubborn bristle, and I find it glides over the Philips fluid quite happily. I sometimes use the Philips first and finish off any awkward bits with the Braun. I do very definitely "feel" the Braun in use.
